3 Snowplowing Tips

We recently had a couple of inches of snow in our area and I’ve been blown away by how much damage I’ve seen around town caused by snowplowing.
Here you can see an entire section of curb was completely ripped out of the ground by someone plowing.
Keep in mind this was only about 2 or 3 inches of snow.
Here’s three things you can do to save your equipment and to keep from damaging property.
Number one, I love these driveway markers. They’re really cheap and easy to install.
They work great for marking the edge of roads and parking lots.
I especially like them on gravel lots, so I’m not pushing snow with gravel into the grass.
Number two, I try to avoid plowing snow with a fixed bucket on a skid steer or a backhoe.
There’s just no give, if you hit something.
I much prefer using a plow that will trip when you hit something, and if you are using a blade with a trip- make sure it’s unlocked.
Funny story, a guy told me one time that his Ventrac almost throws him off every time he hits something.
Come to find out he had it in the locked position- the pin was actually bent into a “U” from hitting stuff.
Number three, go slow especially if you’re in an area you’re not familiar with. @hausplans
