602 | Why ‘Reach’ Isn’t Enough: Measuring True Impact & Change – Social Entrepreneurship Course

August 13, 2025 75 Views

In this lesson, we explore the critical field of outcome metrics in social change, challenging the common misconception that large numbers of people reached equate to significant social impact. We delve into how to think beyond mere reach, discussing more profound ways to measure success and introducing Ashoka’s four levels of change, from direct service to transformative systems and framework shifts.

🎯 Learning Objectives
• Understand the limitations of “reach” as a primary social impact metric.
• Identify and differentiate Ashoka’s four levels of social change: direct service, scaled direct service, systems change, and framework change.
• Explain how to measure and pursue higher-level, transformative social impact beyond just the number of people served.
• Recognize the need to educate funders on comprehensive social impact measurement that goes beyond quantitative reach.
