How To Unclog A Sink

November 3, 2023 80923 Views

This sink drain is partially clogged and drains slow- Let’s see if we can fix it.
The first thing I want to do is remove the stopper so I can clean out the clog.
I loosen this nut at the back of the drain to pull out the linkage, now I can remove the stopper.
The bad thing about this type of drain is they tend to catch a lot of hair and soap scum causing the sink to clog.
I like to make a hook with a piece of wire or coat hanger to snag all the hair out.
Once I get the bulk of it, I take a paper towel and clean out the soap scum.
To reassemble, I make sure the tab is at the back and set the stopper in place.
Then I reinsert the linkage, making sure the nut is snug so there’s no leaks.
Let’s fill the sink and try it out.
When I pull up, the stopper goes down and holds water no problem.
Now let’s see how it drains, looks like it’s fixed.
Here you can see how the linkage works- when I pull the lever behind the faucet it moves the linkage up and down.
Comment, are you someone who clogs sink or unclogs them? @hausplans
