David Corn on Donald Trump and Russia – the fifth estate

January 21, 2017 57089 Views

Veteran Mother Jones journalist David Corn broke the story about claims that Donald Trump may have been compromised by the Russians.

The allegations were based on a 35-page memo, compiled by a former British Intelligence agent, hired by Trump opponents to find information damaging to his presidential bid. The dossier contains details of alleged co-operation with the Russians as well as Trump’s possible exposure to blackmail because of suspected bugged phone calls or sexual acts recorded in hotel rooms. The allegations have not been substantiated and have been dismissed by both Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Corn broke the story in Mother Jones. His source – now known to be Christopher Steele, the former Russia specialist for Britain’s MI-6 intelligence service. Steele’s unverified report alleges Trump might have been targeted during that 2013 Miss Universe pageant in Moscow.
