I’m going to show you the best and fastest way to put in a new yard.
First use machines, not hand tools.
My father-in-law brought over his Ventrac with power rake- it smooths out all the topsoil and kicks the rocks to the edges so they’re easy to pick up.
Next, he used a landscape rake in the opposite direction over the yard.
This would have taken hours to do by hand.
By the time he was done, this yard was as smooth as a big city lawyer.
Make sure to use contractor mix grass seed that contains some annual rye- it can come up in as fast as 3 days.
Use straw blankets, loose straw washes out and blows away in the wind.
This stuff is a pain to install, but once it’s down it’s not going anywhere.
Get a staple driver so you don’t have to bend down; although, this ground was so hard I had to put some in with a hammer.
I tried to get The New Guy to help with this because he’s so close to the ground, but he said he had an appointment and needed to leave.
I even asked The Old Guy if he could come out to help, but he said he was hired to do trim work not yard work.
I’m starting to think these two are taking advantage of me.
Overall, this turned out great! I guess you could say I’m outstanding in my field. @hausplans
