How To Install Real Stone Veneer

What if I told you there was a way to make thousands of dollars playing with crayons all day long?
That’s exactly what these guys are doing.
These are masons and they’re installing the stone on the new house we’re building.
After they mark out the shape they want, they score the line using a cordless grinder with a diamond blade.
I’m pretty sure this is how the ancient Egyptians did it.
Then they use a hammer to chip away the extra stone.
The stones are affixed to the wall using Type S mortar.
They had previously prepped the walls with a layer of wire mesh and a scratch coat of mortar so the stone would bond to the wall.
After they wiggle the stone around a little bit and get it where they want it- a few seconds later they can let go and it stays in place.
We’re using real stone on our house that has been cut into a veneer. They vary between 1-2” in thickness.
The corners are cut and then split out of a solid piece of stone.
We put a soldier course of brick veneer above the doors and windows.
This helps to tie the brick and stone sections on the house together
Let me know, which do you like better- the brick, the stone, or a combination of both? @hausplans
