How To Keep A Concrete Slab From Settling

How hot is too hot to work? – let’s just say it’s absolutely cooking out here.
But I’ve got a problem, the back of this house is jacked out of the ground.
We need to build up over 4 feet in this area and pour a concrete slab level with the door to the basement.
First, I need to dry stack these 4” block columns against the foundation. The plans call for a column every 4 foot on center.
These block columns will support the slab at the house so it will never settle.
Here you can see the block is supported by the footing below and will hold the weight of the concrete slab above.
When you’re dry stacking block it’s important that the first one is level. I like to use these broken pieces of wall tie they make a perfect shim.
You might be wondering, “why aren’t you using any mortar?”
Because this entire area gets filled with crushed concrete- it will create pressure against the block that locks them in place so they can’t move.
