Who wants cancer? Not me.
That’s why we’re installing a radon mitigation system in the new house we’re building.
Radon is a naturally occurring gas that leaks out of the ground, and it’s known to be one of the leading causes of lung cancer.
We have high levels in our area- it seeps into houses through openings and cracks in the foundation.
Here you can see I’m installing a radon fan in the attic.
This fan will suck air from the foundation and blow it out the roof.
It plugs into a dedicated outlet and will run 24/7.
The four-inch pipe attached to the fan runs across the attic, down through both floors, into the basement, and then underneath the slab.
Next, I install a manometer on the radon pipe in the basement.
I drill a 3/16” hole into the PCV pipe; then I insert a tube between the manometer and the hole.
The manometer doesn’t measure radon, but it shows the suction of the fan.
You can see the liquid rise when the fan is plugged in.
Now radon trapped beneath the slab will be safely pumped out the roof of our house.
Let me know in the comments, did you have to mitigate for Radon at your house? @hausplans
