A bride was ordered killed by her family over secret marriage

In 2001, The Fifth Estate uncovered new information about the murder of Jaswinder (Jassi) Sidhu, a 25-year-old beautician from Maple Ridge, B.C., whose mother and uncle were accused of planning the hit.

In 1999, Sidhu had married a poor rickshaw driver against her family’s wishes. While she was visiting India in 2000, she and her husband were attacked. Her husband was severely beaten and left for dead but survived. Sidhu was abducted, and the next day, she was found dead in a canal. The men arrested for the murder swore their orders came from Sidhu’s own family in Canada. #thefifthestate #investigativejournalism #truecrimecommunity #cbcnews
