Attempting To Climb This Steep Pile Of Dirt With My Ventrac

This is my Ventrac and it climbs hills like a mountain goat on caffeine.
But can it climb this pile of loose dirt? Let’s find out.
On the first attempt I made it about ½ way up and lost traction, so I decided to back down and try it again with a little more speed.
This dirt’s just way too loose.
I thought maybe if I drove around and came down from the top I would pack in a trail, and it would be able to climb up a little better.
This time I made it pretty far, but the front came up and then I lost traction with the rear wheels.
Finally, I got a little more running start, made it all the way to the top and then bottomed out right at the crest of the hill.
I didn’t have a chain, so I decided to grab the Caterpillar and see if I could push it from the bottom.
You can see here- even the track of the CAT is spinning on this steep hill, but I was able to nudge the Ventrac enough to get it unstuck.
You can actually get a dual wheel kit for this tractor that makes it more stable on steep terrain.
Here goes the final attempt, BOOM, right over the top- No Problem!
I love these little tractors; they’re such a great piece of American engineering.
Let me know in the comments, what should I do next with my Ventrac? @hausplans
