Building A Drill Powered Turntable

August 3, 2025 528129 Views

I just built a machine that got out of control and started to self-destruct.
I needed to make a turntable for our next cooking video.
I started by mounting Lazy Susan hardware to a piece of ¾” plywood.
Next, I measured and found the center of the two-foot tabletop I bought at the hardware store.
Then I mounted a floor flange.
The screws I had were too long, so I cut them off with a grinder and had to use pliers to hold them because they were so hot.
The floor flange fit through the hole I drilled in the center of the Lazy Susan hardware.
I’d love to know who this Susan was that was so lazy they named a whole cabinet after her.
Next, I used the access hole I drilled to screw the hardware to the tabletop; then I threaded on a piece of pipe with a 5” pulley.
I used a hole saw at the other end to drill a two-inch hole.
Today’s video is brought to you by the letter “P”.
The turntable’s going to be powered by my cordless drill, and I needed a way to hold it in place so it wouldn’t move.
I put threaded rod and a 3” pulley into the drill.
The machine got out of control the first time because I accidentally overtightened the zip tie on the trigger.
Let me know in the comments what food you think we’re gonna make with this turntable. @hausplans
