Why on earth would anyone ever block a view like this with a traditional garage door?
This is where my friend Jeff comes in- he’s our garage door guy and he’s installing these full-view glass doors in our new house.
All the hardware is installed with self-tapping machine screws.
Once the hinges were on, we set the first section in place and then bolted the track to the wall.
I ran 2x6s the hole way around the opening so there would be something solid to bolt into.
These glass doors have a powder coated aluminum frame and every section gets a reinforcement strut.
The struts keep the door from flexing- especially when it’s in the open position.
After each panel is set into place, it’s bolted to the one below using hinges-there’s four in the middle and two more at each end.
I love how much light these doors let in. The only downside is that you can see in at night when there’s a light on.
Check out Jeff’s Jeep- it’s a 1988 J20. He actually has two of them and they’re both the same color.
He said he likes these Jeeps because they’re tough and they keep on going forever.
Let me know in the comments- would you put glass garage doors in your house? @hausplans
