Cooking Shovel Pockets On The Jobsite

July 30, 2025 3625073 Views

We just fried shovel pockets right here on the jobsite.
All you need is pancake batter, a shovel, and an excavator bucket full of hot oil.
We put 5 gallons of oil in the bucket and heated it with a propane torch.
You gotta leave the pocket in till it turns nice and golden brown then drain off the extra grease.
Next go back to the pancake batter and dip the shovel a second time. Make sure it’s coated all the way.
Then put it right back into the oil and fry it again.
Now I know what everyone’s thinking. I don’t have an excavator- can I make these at home in my kitchen?
No, but you can rent an excavator.
The more I made these, the better they got- it’s just like kids, the first one’s always a little messed up.
Next, it’s time to fill the shovel pockets with chocolate. We’re using Nutella and we’re going to fill them all the way up.
Finally, hit them with a light dusting of powdered sugar, some whipped cream, and last but not least- raspberries. We like to keep it healthy here at Haus Plans.
The pockets were so crunchy- they tasted absolutely amazing.
Let us know- what should we cook next on the jobsite? @hausplans
