What we call planets today were known as “wandering stars” by the ancestors. In ancient cosmology, there are seven wandering stars — including the Sun and Moon. All of these wandering stars were personified as Greek deities, which explains why Earth is the only so-called “planet” not named after one.
This is because each deity’s attributes were based on the behavior of its corresponding wandering star or planet. Since the Earth (or “heart”) was always taught to be stationary and at the center of the cosmos, it could not be personified in the same way as the seven wanderers that became named after Greek deities.
All early personifications of Earth deities center around Mother Goddesses and cosmic egg creation myths.
