Getting Started Excavating The Warehouse

Let me show you how we got the pad ready for the new warehouse we’re building.

First, I put a gravel berm around the entire perimeter of the site.

This will keep any silt from washing away in case we get heavy rain.

Next, using measurements from the site plan, we spray-painted where the parking lot needed to be extended and squared off.

We had a bunch of rain the night before, so the sod cut really easy.

I used some of the gravel that needed to be cut away for the pad to fill in these spots.

There was one shrub in the way, so I used the skid steer to pop it up without damaging it.

These shrubs are expensive, so it was definitely worth saving it.

The rain made for easy digging, but it also made the plant and the dirt around the roots super heavy.

We needed to cut away about 8 inches where the building sits to make room for the concrete floor and some crushed stone underneath.

The bulldozer worked great for this.

We kept the gravel we scraped away separate -This will be hauled off and saved and we can use it on another job.

Once we got the pad to the right height, I decided to put just a thin layer of crushed stone down to keep everyone out of the mud as they’re working.

The foundation guys are coming next week to start digging the footers. Let me know in the comments do you think that plant I moved will live? @hausplans
