Hilti Powder Actuated Fastener

Say “Hello” to my little friend
This is the Hilti DX36M powder actuated fastening tool.
It shoots fasteners into solid concrete and even into steel.
So how does it work? It’s powered by 27 caliber powder cartridges.
They come in plastic strips of 10, like this, and feed through the bottom of the grip on the fastener.
This tool is pump actuated- each time you pump it feeds in a new cartridge.
It uses fasteners with a plastic ring around them. The ring centers the nail in the nose of the tool and keeps it from falling out.
It also has a built-in safety- it won’t go off if you just pull the trigger, but it has to be pressed into something solid for it to fire.
The brick masons are using it to install their wall ties, like these, into the concrete foundation.
The wall ties go in between layers of brick and keep the brick wall from pulling away from the foundation wall.
The only downside to these fasteners is, if you need to remove one- you’re going to be taking a chunk of concrete with it.
Let me know in the comments- would you rather use one of these or a Tapcon? @hausplans
