In 1991, The Fifth Estate interviewed Gilbert Galvan in prison to find out how he pulled off his elaborate heists across most of Canada. He had become known as one of Canada’s “best” bank robbers until his arrest.
Galvan flew first class from city to city, disguised as a businessman. He was eventually nicknamed “the Flying Bandit.” The whole time, his wife had no idea what he was up to.
The Fifth Estate is marking its 50th year of investigative journalism. Watch the documentary The Flying Bandit and more from the show’s files on YouTube.
