Today we’re eating a $10 hot dog followed by a $500 meal at one of the most isolated and unique restaurants in Norway!

Our food adventure all begins in Bergen, where we picked up our rental car… and Bergen happens to have one of the best hot dog stalls in the country.

Trekroneren, Bergen, Norway (https://maps.app.goo.gl/r3hg5JfDH1XTbT8TA) – This place self proclaimed says they serve the world’s best hot dog, and after trying it I have to agree. I tried their signature reindeer sausage, lingonberry, crispy onions – and it was one of the best sausages I’ve ever had. Price – 95 KR ($10.10)

Iris, Salmon Eye, Norway (https://maps.app.goo.gl/Yw8isGiVywxEiThg9) – Next up we drove a couple hours to get to Salmon Eye, and within a beautiful fjord you’ll find one of the most unique dining destinations in the world – Iris!

Our meal started with a trip to the Boat House, before we took the to the largest floating art installation in the world, home to Iris Restaurant. Head Chef Anika Madsen has worked in top kitchen in Denmark before opening Iris, where her and her husband and team now serve an 18 course meal that’s called Expedition Dining.

Here are all the dishes I tried:
CONE OF PLENTY – Aromatic herbs, fermented gooseberry and jasmine blossom.
TIDEMARK – Scallop, oyster emulsion, salads from Astrid & lemon butter sauce
500 METERS – Blue mussel, beach crab and rock weed
TOPPTUR – Crispy onion, langoustine tartare and smoked fresh cheese
COAT OF ARMS – Crispy croustade, Gastro Unika Gold caviar & salted mahogany clam
BROWN CRAB CIRCUIT – Toasted blinis, poached brown crab, crispy seaweed, black currant leaf, reindeer mousse & preserved pine cones
IT’S A TRAP! – Shrimp, tomatoes & tamarind
CRACK THE SILENCE – Sea urchin, fresh greens, raspberry & rose hip Nam Jim
WEEDS OF THE SEA – Cuttlefish, celeriac & lovage
NOT YOUR FINNBIFF – Reindeer filet, lardo, pepper sauce and confit fennel
TRASH OR TREASURE? – Scallop offcuts, horseradish, squid ink & lemon rind
SPRUCED UP – Crispy tartelet, pickled spruce needles, pine sorbet & caviar
WHEY HIT WONDER – Fresh Brunost, laminated brioche, red currant, strawberries & rum/plum ice cream

Price – 4,700 NOK ($473.84) per person (with wine over $500 per person)

Both the $10 hot dog and the $500 meal at Iris were absolutely incredible experiences.
