Installing A Steel Dryer Vent Cap

How would you like to sleep at night with this clanging around outside your house?
I’m going to show you the best way to install a dryer vent cap.
To start with, don’t buy the cheap plastic ones, get one made of steel.
I like to put a magnet in mine, so the flapper doesn’t chatter when it’s windy.
I’m going to cut this 4” dryer duct flush with the wall.
I installed this duct before the masons came, so that I wouldn’t have to drill through the brick later.
This vent cap wouldn’t slide in place because of these three prongs, so I cut this section off.
And for all you young guys out there, make sure you wear a face shield when you’re using a grinder- you only get two good eyes.
Once I get it in place and make sure it’s level- I mark the spots where I need to drill four pilot holes.
I’m using three sixteenths of an inch masonry screws- you wanna go easy with these…it doesn’t take a whole lot for them to strip out in the brick.
Finally, I run a bead of silicone across the top and down both sides.
There’s a lot going on at the new house- the guys are hanging drywall on the inside and siding is going up on the outside.
