So, there’s this dessert made in India called Roller Ice Cream.
Basically, they take a steel drum and pack it full of ice and rock salt which makes the steel on the drum freezing cold.
Then they lay it in a stand horizontally and spin it with a hand crank.
Next, they squirt juices on the drum- every kind of fresh fruit you can imagine. This creates different layers and patterns of color and flavor.
Once all the layers are frozen to the drum, they take a small chisel tool and shave the ice off the drum as it spins into a bowl.
It’s kind of like watching a chisel turn on a wood lathe- only this is ice.
When we were making ice cream the other day with the cement mixer and I saw the drum freezing up this reminded me of the Indian Roller Ice and I thought I would try it myself.
It worked ok, but I thought of a better idea. I could have a roller drum fabricated to mount onto the auger attachment for my skid steer. So it would be powered by the machine instead of by hand.
What do you guys think? Do you think this is something we should try?
Also, if you get a chance- look up Roller Ice it’s really fascinating to watch. @hausplans
