Check out the hardware I ordered for installing these 8×8 Douglas Fir Posts on this house.
Simpson has a whole line of decorative hardware called “Outdoor Accents”.
These “L” brackets are galvanized steel with black powder coating.
I also got hex head washers- they give the look of a bolt but allow you to use a structural screw.
I got 3 ½” screws for the post and 5 ½” screws to go up into the beam.
Next, I got 8 x 8 concealed post bases- these bases hold the post up off the mounting surface an inch, so they won’t rot.
They are attached by cutting a slot in the bottom of the posts and then using pins to hold everything together. This way the fasteners are concealed.
Finally, I got a DeWalt 3-Spot Laser- this will allow me to align the post bases directly below the beam above.
