Check out this 930 wheel loader. It weighs over 15 tons and puts out 170 horsepower.
CAT @catconstructiontrade invited us to their DIRT DAYS 2024 and we got to operate a bunch of their newest equipment.
This loader was one of my favorites, not only for everything it had but for something it didn’t have- a steering wheel.
That’s right- it has joystick steering.
I was impressed that they made something this massive and powerful so easy to operate.
I got to run the loader in one of the timed competitions they set up for us.
First, I had to couple the bucket and load 10 tons of stone, which was easy to measure because this machine has a payload scale.
Then I had to drive through several sets of cones without knocking a basketball off.
You can see I had a little wiggle wiggle here getting used to the joystick, but it didn’t take long at all before I got the hang of it.
CAT still makes these loaders with a steering wheel if that’s what you prefer.
Next, I had to drive back down the hill through the cones to where I started.
This is where it really got fun… I had to uncouple the bucket, hook into a set of forks, and pick up one of three basketballs and try to get it in the goal.
Let me know in the comments which do you think you would prefer, a steering wheel or a joystick? @hausplans
