The “Sophia (lit. Wisdom) of Jesus Christ” is an ancient text in which the resurrected Messiah directly answers the Apostles questions on topics of cosmology, metaphysics and redemption. But, the answers Jesus provides are downright strange, detailing ineffable beings, various eternal realms or aeons and a final unification of the soul with the divine. The mystery of this text is deepened by the fact that the words of Jesus in the “Sophia of Jesus Christ” seem to be taken from an even more ancient, non-Christian Gnostic work known as Eugnostos. What are these texts: profound wisdom, ancient forgeries or something even more mysterious?
