Hildegard of Bingen (d. 1179) was a abbess, composer, scientist, healer and mystic – one of the most remarkable women in history. In addition to her mystical visions, she also divined a mystical language she referred to as the “lingua ignota” or unknown language along with a mystical alphabet. The lingua ignota contains about 1000 words and even survives in one of her musical compositions.
