Ty Conn: A Life Imprisoned (2000) | The Fifth Estate

June 26, 2025 68305 Views

Ty Conn became the first person in over 40 years to escape from Kingston Penitentiary—a desperate act that ended tragically. From 2000, the story of the convicted bank robber’s life and death reveals much about how our society deals with troubled children and criminal adults.

This episode departs from traditional reporting, telling Ty’s story through his own words and those who knew him. Key moments from his life are recreated, filmed at his childhood home, and in the juvenile and adult prisons he inhabited for 18 of the 32 years he was alive.
