We just got a finished set of plans for the house we’re starting.
Let’s talk about the different types of roofs.
Here on the front, we have two gables, and then on the right elevation you can see the large main gable roof.
This type of with a single slope is called a shed roof.
Here is what it looks like from the side, and there’s another one on this dormer that’s on the front of the house.
The little roof above the front door actually has a curve to it.
The way we’re going to build it- is to first set the trusses, and then we’re gonna attached a curved piece of 2 by material that we cut with a jigsaw, to each truss.
Now, when you see this little symbol on plans it’s showing the pitch of the roof.
For every 12” of horizontal there’s 10” of vertical rise- This is called a 10/12 roof pitch.
On the back of the house, we have a 12/12 pitch on this gable, which, by the way, creates a right angle- 12 inches horizontal and 12 inches vertical.
This cross section here shows a 14/12, which is a really steep roof.
And then on the inside there’s a cathedral ceiling that’s an 8/12- that’s the slope of the ceiling on both sides.
Finally, we have a bird’s eye view of the entire roof system. @hausplans
