We Used a Hydraulic Hammer to Break Rock for These Footings

Limestone, we ran into solid limestone digging the footings for this building.
Now sometimes you can dig through the top layer of this type of rock, but typically it’s more solid the deeper you dig.
And if you’re not careful you can tear up the bucket or break a tooth off.
So, we paid to bring in a large excavator with a hydraulic hammer.
It uses the hydraulics off the machine to break the rock.
The good thing is I know these footings will be on solid ground.
Putting in a proper, quality foundation is never cheap, but honestly it’s the most important step in building a structure.
It doesn’t matter what paint colors we choose or how fancy the custom cabinetry is- if the foundation starts to crack apart you’ve got a major problem.
When I’m digging footings, it makes me think about what Jesus said, “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock. But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds on sand. @hausplans
