Why Metaphysics had to be Destroyed to Save It – Kant & Mysticism

Can Mystical Experiences and Speculative Metaphysics be trusted? By the mid-18th century, Rationalism and Empiricism were tearing Philosophy, Religion and Occult Spirituality apart. Some grand synthesis was required if a unified worldview were to be possible. And that synthesis was produced by Immanuel Kant starting with his Critique of Pure Reason. Often thought to doom mystical experiences as nonsense, Kant’s critical philosophy actually goes to lengths to preserve and reform the centrality of mysticism. Why? Because Kant himself was deeply influenced by the mystic scientist Emmanuel Swedenborg. Let’s explore the radical criticism of Kant, why this ‘Esoteric Kant’ isn’t better known and how he paved the way for a truly Critical Mysticism.
