Wind Destroys Wood House??

Oh no- I just checked the weather they’re calling for 10 mph winds.
Why did I build my house out of wood?
Alright, seriously the number of comments I’ve gotten about wood construction.
Especially from Europeans saying your houses are made out of cardboard- one little wind and It’s gonna blow over- You should have used concrete.
Here’s the thing, wood is a renewable resource, it’s affordable, it’s easy to insulate, and it performs well in earthquakes.
Now I love concrete with rebar, but it can corrode over time, especially if it’s not maintained.
We can’t just build however we want with wood- we’re governed by the international building code and state and local codes.
These codes divide the country up into different zones- they take into account things like seismic activity, temperature, snow load, and wind speed.
For example, structures in our area must be built to withstand winds up to 115 mph.
So, a house designed to work in Maine is not going to be the same as a house designed for Southern California.
Honestly, the design and the quality of construction are just as important as the materials you choose to use.
We’re getting ready to frame this 5000 square foot warehouse and planning to show the process, so if you enjoy this content, make sure to like and follow. @hausplans
